Peda popularly known as Pera is an Indina subcontinent sweet which is prepared in soft but thick pieces. Peda is made from many ingredients which are easily available in the Indian kitchen such as sugar, khoa or mava, cardamom seeds, pistachio nuts and other traditional flavorings. There are so many varieties in Peda such as Brown peda, Sandwich Peda, Doodh Peda and much more. The color of peda varies in different categories such as creamy white, brown, yellow and caramel color. Peda can be understood as a sphere shapped dough made from flour or khoa. Various spellings and names of the dessert could be found in India such as pera, pedha, penda(in Gujarati).
Peda has its origin in the renowned city of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. The Mathura Peda is famous Worldwide for its delicious mouth-melting taste. Originating from Uttar Pradesh, today Peda has spread in many parts of the country. Thakur Ram Ratan Singh is known to have introduced pedas back in 1850s in the city of Dharwad(Karnataka). This variety is famous as Dharwad Pedha. Kandi Peda is another famous variety of Peda from Satara in Maharashtra.
